The Following Is A Brief Explanation Of Type 2 Diabetes:
Type 2 Diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. It differs from Type 1 Diabetes where the patient does not produce any insulin. People afflicted withTYPE 2 Diabetes do produce insulin, but their body does not produce enough insulin or has lost the capability to use it properly.
The cause of Diabetesis still a mystery, although genetics and environmental factors both are considered prime suspects as obesity and lack of exercise is a few of the leading traits people who contract Diabetes have in common.
TYPE 2 Diabetes stops the glucose from reaching the cells, which they need to function properly. By glucose building up in the blood stream, causes many other problems. Such as a buildup in the blood with glucose that triggers the body to urinate more frequent to clear the excess sugar from its system. When the kidneys lose the glucose through urination, the result is a large loss of water with that can cause dehydration.
When a person afflicted with TYPE 2 Diabetes becomes severely dehydrated it can cause Diabetic Coma. This can turn into several other life threatening conditions. If these conditions persist it can cause damage to the small blood vessels of the eye, which can cause vision loss or blindness. It can damage the heart and kidneys, which also can lead to Hardening of the large arteries. Which in turn can cause heart failure and lead to a stroke?
As a person withType 2 Diabetesyou should learn the different warning signs of the various disease symptoms and memorize them. Most of the symptoms come on slow, so if your knowledgeable and alert, you can react fast to the warning signs and by using the proper treatment methods, you can stop the attack before it starts. Thus preventing any serious damage that could develop.
I will list some warning signs for the most common problems:
· High Blood Sugar: Symptoms are blurred vision, frequent urination, and increased thirst. It comes on slow, so you can treat it immediately before it can get out of control, and avoid having to seek medical care.
· Low Blood Sugar: the most common symptoms are sweating, chills, weakness, extreme hunger and confusion. By treating low Blood sugar immediately you will avoid the loss of consciousness, which can happen with severe Low Blood Pressure (Hypoglycemia).
· Diabetic Nephropathy: Nephropathy means nerve damage or disease caused by Diabetes; usually you will not notice any symptoms of kidney damage until it reaches a severe stage. Then you may notice the following symptoms, swelling in your feet, legs, and through out your body. Have your urine tested at regular intervals as the Doctor prescribes, as this is the only way you can catch it early enough to prevent serious damage
· There is three kinds of Diabetic Nephropathy :
· (A.) Focal Nephropathy : Is when only one nerve is involved and you may have symptoms in only one part of your body. Usually in the thigh, foot, or wrist, and it may also affect the nerves of your back and chest and those that control your eye muscles. The real problem is this type of nerve damage usually happens suddenly.
· (B) Peripheral Nephropathy : Is damage to the peripheral nerves. These are the nerves that control things like pain, hot& cold, and touch. The nerves in the lower legs and feet are the ones most effected, and can lead to severe feet problems. The damage grows worse slowly over a long period of time.
· (C) Autonomic Nephropathy: Is damage to the Autonomic Nerves. These are the nerves that control things like your blood pressure, heart beat, urination, sweating, sexual function, and digestion.
· Diabetic Retinopathy: Most of the time there are no symptoms until it starts changing your vision, then the usual symptoms are having blurred or distorted vision, seeing floaters (little black specs or dots), you can have pain in your eyes, the real problem is by the time you are aware these symptoms you may already have severe damage to your eyes. The best way to prevent this is having your eyes checked at least once a year for Diabetic Retinopathy or as often as your Eye Doctor recommends.
· Pre-Diabetes: Pre-Diabetes is when a persons blood glucose levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed as Type 2 Diabetes. There are 54 million Americans that have been listed as having Pre – Diabetes.
